Laura Tessmer is a Senior Consultant with SHA Retirement Group. She joined the firm in 2015 bringing with her more than 15 years of experience in the investment consulting industry. Laura advises 401(k), 403(b), and defined benefit plans for public and private corporations and higher education institutions.
Laura first entered the industry in 2001 with Smith Barney as a Consulting Group Analyst specializing in investment manager research, performance measurement and asset allocation. She then worked as an Associate Consultant with Callan Associates, Inc. in Chicago working with large market defined contribution and defined benefit plans in all aspects of investment policy, asset allocation, plan design, investment manager search and selection and performance measurement. Laura joined the Southfield, MI office of Plante Moran Financial Advisors in 2007 as the Senior Analyst responsible for the firm’s investment manager due diligence efforts for all Domestic Equity and International Equity strategies. In 2011, Laura joined PMFA’s Retirement Plan Consulting team as a Senior Consultant serving retirement plan clients with all aspects of their defined contribution and defined benefit plans. Laura joined SHA Retirement Group in 2015.
Laura received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation from Investments & Wealth Institute (formerly IMCA) and the Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA) designation from ASPPA demonstrating her depth of knowledge in both investment manager due diligence and qualified retirement plans. In addition, Laura holds the FINRA Series 65 registration through Resource Investment Advisors (RIA).
Laura enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff, and their two children. In her spare time, she enjoys golfing, running, biking, tennis and travel.
